Baseball league

The designation 東京 六 大学 野球 連 盟 ( Tōkyō roku daigaku yakyū renmei ) goes back to the baseball tournament that has been held twice a year since 1925 ("Six Universities of Tokyo'- Baseball ", 東京 六 大学 野球 Tōkyō roku daigaku yakyū ). Before the founding of the Japanese Baseball League in 1936 and the subsequent growth (after 1950) of Nippon Professional Baseball , the competition, also known as the Big6 League , was considered the highest level of baseball in Japan. The tournament is held annually on eight weekends in spring and autumn in Meiji-jingū Yakyūjō as a 3-player playoff . If a team has two wins, the third game is no longer played. The Spring Master is eligible to compete in the All Japan University Baseball Championship Series , while the Fall Master is eligible to compete in the Meiji Jingu Stadium Tournament .

It is played according to rules similar to those of the North American National League and Central League . The designated hitter rule does not apply and the thrower is also used as a batsman . It is only with clubs playing in wood.

An expression of the great tradition of Tōkyō roku daigaku yakyū is also the competition of cheerleaders ( Ōendan ) on the occasion of the games. The game ( 早 慶 戦 , sōkeisen ) between the country's two most prestigious private universities, Keiō and Waseda, attracts special attention and is extremely popular with students, not least because it leads to lectures being canceled at both universities.
