Seeger Lederwaren was founded by Karl Seeger in Offenbach am Main in 1889 . The company's high-quality leather goods have been sold worldwide and have received international awards for their high quality.

history

On November 11th, 1889, the saddler Karl Seeger founded a workshop for travel bags on Offenbacher Geleitsstrasse, which were initially sold primarily in neighboring Frankfurt . Due to increasing demand, the craft business expanded and seven years later moved to new company premises in Offenbacher Kaiserstraße , opposite the company headquarters of its competitor Goldpfeil . In 1905 Friedrich Emmerling joined the company as a partner and later as sole owner. He commissioned Ludwig Enders to design the company's products. In 1923 the founder Karl Seeger died. In 1930 Emmerling brought his son-in-law Fritz Johl into the company. Seeger products were awarded gold medals at the world exhibitions in Paris in 1937 and in Brussels in 1958 . Fritz Johl's sons, Fred and Armin Johl, took over the company in 1971 and relocated the company's headquarters to the Offenbach district of Bieber-Waldhof .

Seeger supplied specialist shops with luxury leather goods all over the world. In 1992 the family business was sold by the owners to Montblanc in Hamburg and the brand name was changed to Montblanc Leather GmbH . A short time later, Montblanc took the Seeger brand name off the market, but production remained in Offenbach for another 17 years. Production was switched to split cowhide, which was cheaper than the leather traditionally used by Seeger.

On March 10, 2009, Montblanc announced that it would shut down the production facility in Offenbach at the end of the year and move production to Florence. However, it did not shut down: In June 2009, a Lübeck holding company took over Montblanc Leather GmbH and acquired the rights to the “Karl Seeger” brand from Montblanc. The company was continued under the old name "Karl Seeger Lederwarenmanufaktur GmbH" and products were again manufactured in the old quality.

Insolvency proceedings were opened on September 30, 2010 and the company was sold in December 2010 to a newly founded Karl Seegers AG . However, this ceased operations in April 2011. The right holder of the brand name has been SEEGER Lederwaren International Ltd. since 2012 . in Hong Kong.

Products

Seeger leather goods are known worldwide as luxury goods. Seeger supplied a special case for the conductor Leonard Bernstein , which could hold 24 batons. For Pope Paul VI. the company made a suitcase out of white leather with a leather lining and an embossed coat of arms.
