Seehaus (Fichtel Mountains)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The lake house is located in the Hohen Fichtel Mountains (northeast Bavaria) and belongs to the political municipality of Tröstau , district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains. It is a year-round managed accommodation facility of the Fichtelgebirgsverein and can only be reached on hiking trails.

history

The lake house owes its existence to the mining of tin ore, which was operated there on the western slope of the lake hill from the 17th century. It was initially built as a colliery house, an accommodation house for the mining workers. In 1926 the Fichtelgebirgsverein took over the building, demolished the dilapidated house in 1928 and built a new accommodation house for hikers in the same year. In the decades that followed, there were many extensions and renovations.

Famous visitors

On July 1, 1785, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe passed the Seehaus, then still called the Zechenhaus, on his hike from Wunsiedel to the Ochsenkopf and described tin mining. He was accompanied by Karl Ludwig von Knebel and Friedrich Gottlieb Dietrich .
