Seelos (lute maker)

The Seelos (also called Sellas ) were a well-known family of instrument makers (mainly lute , theorbian and viola makers ). She probably came from Tyrol . As was customary at that time, many family members emigrated in order to set up workshops in the European cultural metropolises, at royal courts and in large trading cities and to successfully practice their craft (see also Tieffenbrucker ). The spelling of the family name varies. So he was corrupted to Sellas in Italy.
