The Seelotsgesetz (SeeLG) is the basis for the organization and management of Seelotswesens in Germany .

The self-administration of the sea piloting is incumbent on the pilot brotherhoods . The maritime pilots, who exercise their work as a free profession , are members of the brotherhoods in their area . The Maritime Pilots Brotherhoods together form the Federal Chamber of Pilots .
