Pastoral care center of St. Catherine of Siena
The pastoral care center St. Katharina von Siena is a branch of the Roman Catholic parish church Aspern in the district part Wulzendorf in the 22nd district of Vienna Donaustadt .
history
In 1994 the Archdiocese of Vienna decided to build a pastoral care center for the urban expansion area of Wulzendorf. In 1995 the architect Walter Stelzhammer was commissioned with the planning and construction. On October 19, 1996, Auxiliary Bishop Helmut Krätzl consecrated the church to Saint Catherine of Siena .
Pastoral care center
In a gap in the multi-storey residential complexes in the district, a contradiction was found with a single-storey low-rise building. With an open rectangular flat roof construction on pillars, a kind of sky was built, which is linked to the sacred use of the canopy . The building itself is L-shaped with the sacred space as a multi-purpose room lengthways, the foyer or entrance area in the corner and the side rooms across. The remaining area of the canopy forms a generous, covered forecourt, where a tree was integrated through a disc-shaped roof opening.
