A sea baffle is a plate made of metal or some other material that is used to close openings on ships , primarily portholes , windows and skylights , from the inside. A distinction is made between constructions that require equipment, which are permanently installed and can be activated as a precaution (folded down and screwed) in bad weather to avoid damage from sea hammer, and those that are used subsequently to limit damage after a window has broken.
In contrast to storm covers, sea flaps are attached to the opening from the inside; they can be hinged and fixed or removable.
