Nikola Shekov
Nikola Todorov Schekow (also spelled Nikola Todorov Zhekov ); Bulgarian Никола Тодоров Жеков ; * (December 25, 1864 July / January 6, 1865 greg. In Sliven ; † November 1, 1949 in Füssen ) was a Bulgarian infantry general and minister of war and commander in chief of the Bulgarian army during the First World War .
Life
Schekow entered the officers' school in Sofia in 1885 as a junker and took part in the Serbian-Bulgarian war as a volunteer . In 1887 he was appointed lieutenant and in the following years he held various positions. In February 1912 he was appointed head of the Sofia Military School and from December 12, 1912 he served as chief of the General Staff of the 2nd Army. In 1913 he was promoted to major general and as such he was given command of the Tundscha Division.
On August 6, 1915, Shekov took over the post of Minister of War from his predecessor Ivan Fitschew . At the same time he also acted as commander in chief of the Bulgarian army for the duration of the First World War. In 1919 he retired from active service and was retired.
