Osmanje Order

The Osmanje Order ( Ottoman : Osmanî Nişanı ) was founded by Sultan Abdülaziz when he ascended the throne in 1861 as a reward for important services rendered to the Ottoman Empire . The purpose of the order should be to honor deserving military personnel and officials , but also scientists and artists. Civil servants and the military with at least 20 years of loyalty to the state were given preference. Fees were always payable to the ceremonial office, with the exception of military personnel and foreigners.
Order classes
When the Order was established, there were three classes. In 1867 the statutes were changed and the classes were expanded to four.
Order decoration
The sign of the order consists of a seven-pointed golden, green enamelled star with a golden border and silver, brilliant rays in the corners and small golden balls were placed on the tips. In the crimson-red enamelled, green-fringed central shield, the Turkish words are written in gold: The one chosen by the grace of God our Lord Abd ul Asis Chan, ruler of the Ottoman Empire, as a sign of special merit ; on the reverse is the coat of arms for the first three classes in gold, for the fourth in silver. The medal hangs on a golden crescent moon with a golden five-pointed star and on a ribbon .
This medal is the same size for all classes, only the gold back is in silver for the third and fourth class.
Ribbon and way of wearing
The green ribbon had a crimson stripe on both sides.
The first class wore the medal as a sash over the right shoulder to the left hip. For the first and second class there was also an order star of the same appearance on the left breast. The next following classes made it a neck medal , while the fourth class wore it in rosette form as a breast star or in a buttonhole.
The breast star , which the first class wears on the left and the second class on the right, is eight-pointed, brilliant, and made of silver; in the center shield is the inscription with a crescent moon.
