The Strait of Olchon ( Russian : Ольхонские Ворота Olchonskie Worota ) is a strait of Baikal . The 8.3 km long road is 1.2 to 2.3 km wide and up to 100 m deep. The road separates the island of Olkhon from the western shore of Lake Baikal. The southern part of the road flows into the central part of the Baikal, the northern part of the bay "Small Sea" (Малое море) connects. The strong current in the street creates waves up to 5 m high.

The banks of the Olkhon Sea Road are mostly rugged and steep. The coastline is criss-crossed by long, narrow cliffs or bays. At the north-north-western end of the road lies the Sarma River, which gives its name to the strongest wind on Lake Baikal.

In 2005, an underwater cable was laid through the street to provide electricity to Olkhon.

The Sakhyurta ferry runs on the Olkhon Sea Road from May 15th to December 15th. In winter you can reach the island of Olkhon over the ice sheet of the Baikal.
