Petro Tronko

Petro Tymofijowytsch Tronko (* June 29 . Jul / 12. July  1915 greg. In Sabrody , Kharkov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 12. September 2011 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Soviet -ukrainischer historians and politicians.

Life

From 1967 to 1978 Tronko was the chairman of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Monuments, History and Culture and in this capacity the initiator of the Pirogov Open Air Museum . Petro Tronko was the responsible editor-in-chief of the 26-volume history of the cities and villages of the Ukrainian SSR and the author of numerous publications, including over 600 scientific papers and 17 monographs. He was also an academician and vice-president of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1978/1979 . Tronko was an inspirer and from 1990 until his death chairman of the National Union of Ethnographers of Ukraine (NSKU). He died very old in Kiev and is buried there in the Baikowe Cemetery (Section 6).

Political activity

Petro Tronko was a member of the National Assembly of Western Ukraine in 1939, which legalized its accession to the Soviet Union. Between 1961 and 1978 he was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR . He was a delegate at the XXII., XXIII. and XXV. Congress of the CPSU and Congresses XVI to XXVII of the Communist Party of Ukraine and, for nine legislative terms, the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada .
