The Grünstadt-Quirnheimer Berg glider airfield is a glider airfield in Quirnheim near Grünstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Terrain and flight operations

In 1927 the first glider took off from Quirnheimer Berg. From 1945 to 1950, private flight activities were prohibited in Germany. Because of the establishment of a communications system, the area was confiscated by the American Air Force in 1953. In 1956, a completely uneven area in the south of the communications system was acquired and expanded into an airfield, which was ceremoniously opened a year later. The place is now approved for motor sailers and ultralights . Motorized flight is only permitted with an external landing permit.
