The sailing comradeship "The coat of arms of Bremen" e. V. (SKWB) was founded in 1934 and is one of the largest sailing clubs in Bremen with around 700 members worldwide. The association was named after the convoy ship coat of arms of Bremen .

In addition to dinghies for the youth, the sailing comradeship also has three large yachts that are available to members. With their travels, the members have won many prizes for offshore sailing. The SKWB ships have crossed the Atlantic over 30 times, conquered the Pacific twice and circled Cape Horn several times . The sailing comradeship itself awards prizes for special sailing achievements every year. The “Golden Compass”, the “Silver Globe”, the “Tanja Cup” and the “Franz Perlia Youth Seafaring Prize” are awarded in a festive act at the ocean sailing evening in Bremen's town hall.

history

Declining membership numbers after the First World War brought the Imperial Yacht Club, today called Kieler Yacht Club , to establish new members and bases outside of Kiel. New departments were created in Hamburg, Potsdam, Lübeck and the Weser department of the yacht club with a yacht school in Bremen .

In 1934, due to dissatisfaction with the program of the yacht school and the uncertainty about the continued existence of the Imperial Yacht Club, the yacht school with the name Das Wappen von Bremen was founded . It was registered as an association with the name Segelkameradschaft "The Wappen von Bremen" (SKWB). Several dinghies and the ships Uncle Hannes and Bille III were taken over from the Imperial Yacht Club . Bille III was renamed to The coat of arms of Bremen .

Youth and education

The youth department has several dinghies , mainly pirates , stationed in Bremen-Hemelingen. Sailing training with an experienced trainer takes place here on a regular basis. An X99, the Sixpack from Bremen , was available for older teenagers until the end of 2007. With this boat tours in the German Bight or the Baltic Sea were undertaken more often . In 2008 these were replaced by the two J / 80's Campaign and Beluga Spirit , which in turn were replaced in 2015 by the J70 "Fritz" and in 2016 by the J70 "Diva". These are now available to young people for training units, long-haul companies and the Bundesliga. Both boats took part in the 2016 European Championship.
