The Alp Sigel cable car is a cable car in the Rüte district of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in eastern Switzerland with a length of 1,082 meters. The journey time is 5 minutes. A height difference of 657 meters is overcome.

history

The Alp Sigel cable car was built in 1964 by the “Alp Genossenschaft Alp Sigel” because a road to access Alp Sigel could not be economically implemented. Originally it was a single-lane aerial tramway that was suitable for loads of up to 250 kg. In 1995 the plant was extensively modernized. On June 9, 2008, the system was severely damaged by lightning and could no longer be repaired, it had to be rebuilt from scratch. The cable car company "Inauen - Schätti" from the canton of Glarus built a new aerial tramway with two cabins. The railway was now approved for the transport of people, the old one was only allowed to transport material. The new cable car opened on May 1, 2011. The valley station of the cable car is at the Pfannenstiel farm near Brülisau . The mountain railway is in operation from May 1st to October 31st.
