The Seilergraben is a street in the city of Zurich along the east side of the Niederdorf .

history

The city moat with deer in the future Seilergraben and the Hirschengraben on the mountain side above it in the middle of the 18th century

The Seilergraben follows the course of the former city wall from the 13th century between Kronentor and Niederdorftor. In 1780 the old moat was leveled. The valley-side area along the city wall was henceforth used by the ropemakers as a work place, while the mountain-side part above the opposite wall of the ditch, the Hirschengraben , was converted into an avenue for strollers .

course

The Seilergraben connects the Central with the Neumarkt . The street is located in District 1 (old town) and runs - separated by a retaining wall - below the Hirschengraben. The Hirschengraben continues in its "upper" area to Rämistrasse .

traffic

The Seilergraben has two lanes for private traffic and two lanes for public traffic . The tram line 3 and the trolleybus line 31 drive through the Seilergraben.

Right at the Central, the Seilergraben is crossed by the Polybahn .
