The Seinäjoki Crocodiles are a Finnish American football club from Seinäjoki .
history
The club was founded in 1987 and took part in league operations in 1989. In the 1992 season, the Crocodiles played for the first time in the Vaahteraliiga , the highest Finnish division. In 1996 they were able to finish the league in third place.
In the 2000 season, the Crocodiles succeeded for the first time in the Vaahteramalja , the final of the Finnish championship. There they were subject to series master Helsinki Roosters . A year later, Seinäjoki faced the Roosters again in the final. The Crocodiles managed to get their revenge with a 15:13 victory and thus secured their first and so far only championship title.
As Finnish champions, the Crocodiles took part in the European Football League (EFL) in 2002 . In the quarterfinals they prevailed against the Swedish representative Tyresö Royal Crowns . In the semifinals, they were defeated by the Braunschweig Lions away at 7:15, despite a half-time lead .
In 2005 and 2007, Seinäjoki was in the Vaahteramalja, but was narrowly defeated by the Porvoo Butchers on both occasions (7:17 and 14:15). In the 2008 season , the Crocodiles again reached the semi-finals of the EFL. In the preliminary round they defeated the Moscow Patriots (17: 6) and in the quarterfinals Eidsvoll 1814’s (22:16) away from home. In the semifinals they were clearly defeated by the Vienna Vikings with 7:43. As a semi-finalist, the Crocodiles were already qualified for the quarter-finals in the EFL 2009 , but were defeated in a purely Finnish duel by the Porvoo Butchers with 21:27 after extra time.
In the 2010 season, the Crocodiles in the Vaahteramalja had to admit defeat to the Porvoo Butchers again. A year later they faced the Helsinki Wolverines in the final and were again only runner-up. Also in 2015 and 2016, the Crocodiles achieved the runner-up title by losing in the final against the Roosters.
