The side-blotched lizard ( Utah ) are a genus of the Iguana-like belonging Phrynosomatidae that colonize mainly sandy-rocky dry areas of North America.

The zoologists Baird and Gerard first described the spotted iguanas in 1862 in the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences , which described the common spotted iguana ( Uta stansburiana ) as a type species and at the same time the first species of the genus Uta . The genus Uta was named after the state of Utah in which the animal was discovered.
