sector
The term sector (Latin: sector = "cutter", in the sense of something that cuts ) generally describes a section. It is distinguished from the segment, which designates a section.
Specifically, the sector means

- in the German health care system: subdivision of patient care into the "outpatient sector" (resident doctors) and the "inpatient sector" (hospital)
- In (European) public procurement the term is used for the so-called "sectoral area", i.e. protected sectors (e.g. basic infrastructure services) which regulate public procurement.}
