Selenazole

Selenazoles are a chemical group from the field of heterocyclic compounds and belong to the group of azoles . Its members are five-membered cyclic organic compounds that have a selenium and a nitrogen atom in the ring structure. The parent systems are formed by selenazole (more precisely: 1,3-selenazole) and isoselenazole (more precisely: 1,2-selenazole), whereby in isoselenazole the two heteroatoms are adjacent and in selenazole there is a carbon atom between them. They contain heteroaromatic five-membered rings and are selenium analogues of oxazoles and thiazoles .

1,3-Selenazoles are mostly produced according to a variant of the Hantzsch thiazole synthesis. Instead of thionamides, selenocarboxamides are reacted with α-halogenated carbonyl compounds, which leads directly to 1,3-selenazoles.
