Selenicereus nelsonii is a species of plant in the genus Selenicereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Selenicereus nelsonii grows liana-like with richly branched shoots 1 to 1.5 centimeters in diameter from which aerial roots occasionally arise. Their 6 to 7 low ribs are slightly tubercular. The 10 to 12 spread, needle-like thorns are white to yellow and 5 to 7 millimeters long.

The white flowers are up to 20 centimeters long. Your pericarpel and tube are covered with tiny scales, white wool and white bristles. The spherical, reddish fruits have a diameter of 2 to 2.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Selenicereus nelsonii is widespread in southern Mexico - probably in the state of Chiapas . The first description as Cereus nelsonii was published in 1923 by Wilhelm Weingart (1856-1936). Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in the genus Selenicereus in the same year .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
