Wilhelm Weingart (born September 4, 1856 in Hildburghausen , Thuringia ; † August 31, 1936 in Georgenthal , Thuringia) was a German porcelain manufacturer and amateur botanist. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Weing. "

Life

Wilhelm Weingart was born the son of a porcelain manufacturer in Hildburghausen. His professional career was geared towards taking over his father's business, which had been in the family since 1822. So he also became a technician.

From his earliest childhood he was particularly fond of botany . He was particularly fond of the cacti . Due to his financial independence, he was able to build up a large collection very soon and became known as an expert on the subject beyond the borders of Germany. He shared this passion with his lifelong friend Friedrich Bödeker .

On July 19, 1885, he married Luci Frieda Panse from Hofsberg (Thuringia). A year later his son Wilhelm Reinholt Weingart was born, who later became known as a graduate engineer and director of the German shipyard in Hamburg-Finkenwerder.

On July 2, 1894, the "Technician Wilhelm Weingart in Nauendorf near Ohrdruf" was accepted into the German Cactus Society (DKG).

Dedication names

Only a year after his death, he was in honor of the genus Weingartia of Erich Werdermann published. Other species such as: Mammillaria weingartiana and Leptocereus weingartianus were also named after him.

Works

His more than 40 years membership in the DKG owes him a large number of documented research work in domestic and foreign periodicals. Particular merits are due to him in researching the cereen .
