Mammillaria weingartiana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus connoisseur and collector from Thuringia Wilhelm Weingart .

description

Mammillaria weingartiana grows individually or in groups with spherical, bulbous, slightly shiny dark green shoots 4 to 5 centimeters in diameter. The warts are slender conical. They do not contain milk juice . The axillae are bare. Initially there is 1 hooked central spine . Later it is 2 to 3. The central spines are straight, dark reddish brown and up to 12 millimeters long. The 16 to 25 radial spines are white and 6 to 8 millimeters long.

The light greenish yellow to creamy yellow flowers have a reddish brown central stripe and lashed edges. They are up to 1 centimeter long. The club-shaped, small fruits are red and contain black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria weingartiana is common in the Mexican state of Nuevo León .

It was first described in 1932 by Friedrich Bödeker . Synonyms of Mammillaria weingartiana Boed. are Ebnerella weingartiana (Boed.) Buxb. (1951), Chilita weingartiana (Boed.) Buxb. (1954, nom. Inval. ICBN -Article 33.3), Escobariopsis weingartiana (Boed.) Doweld (2000) and Mammillaria unihamata Boed. (1937).

Mammillaria weingartiana was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Vulnerable (VU) , d". H. endangered, classified. In 2013 it was named “ Least Concern (LC) ”. H. listed as not endangered.
