Selenicereus spinulosus is a species of plant in the genus Selenicereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet spinulosus means 'abundant with fine spines'.

description

Selenicereus spinulosus grows leaning or climbing like a liana. The numerous, shiny, light green shoots are 4 to 5 meters long and 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter. Numerous aerial roots arise from them . The areoles sit on the 4 to 6 sharp-edged ribs at a distance of 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters . The brown, conical thorns are 1 millimeter long. There are 1 central spine and 6 to 7 radial spines.

The slightly pink to white flowers are up to 10 to 12.5 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 7 to 8.5 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are almost scaly, but covered with thorns. The fruits are not described.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Selenicereus spinulosus is common in the southeastern United States and eastern Mexico . The first description as Cereus spinulosus was published in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Selenicereus in 1909 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
