Selkefall
The Selkefall is a waterfall on the Selke in the Lower Harz .
description
The Selkefall is about 20 minutes' walk from Alexisbad , on the B 185 in the direction of Harzgerode , near the Selke Valley Railway . The drop height of the very fast flowing water here is only a few meters. The water falls in cascades over large boulders that are not of natural origin but still look natural.
The Selkefall was built between 1828 and 1830 as part of the construction work for the Carls Teich (upper reservoir of the Mägdesprung ironworks ). For this purpose, the Selke was dammed on the street side and led over a wild flood that was carved into the rock. This could be regulated by a weir , which was destroyed by a flood on July 5, 1955. The harrow can still be seen as a small tunnel.
The area of the waterfall lies in the nature reserve Upper Selketal .
