Semjon Michailowitsch Alexejew ( Russian Семён Михайлович Алексеев ; * 1909 - † February 4, 1993 in Moscow ) was a Soviet aircraft designer.

Life

Alexeyev graduated in 1937 and initially worked for Tupolev , but was denounced and lost his job. He then worked at OKB Ilyushin , but soon switched to OKB von Lavochkin , whose chief designer he was appointed in 1940. During the Second World War , Alexeyev took part in the development of the Lavochkin hunters ( La-5 and La-7 ). He was also involved in Lavochkin's jet aircraft designs in the post-war period, such as the La-15 from 1945/46.

After the war he became chief designer at OKB-21 and designed the test fighter aircraft I-211 , I-212 and I-215 between 1946 and 1948 . The draft I-215 was accepted for production, but stopped in favor of the MiG-15 . Alexeyev fell into political disgrace and his office was closed in the fall of 1948.

He then switched to OKBs 1 and 2, of which he became head. These development offices consisted of German specialists, including Brunolf Baade, and under his direction they designed the twin-engine 150 bomber and tested the Samoljot 346 based on the German DFS 346 . After the dissolution of the two OKBs, Alexejew returned to Lavochkin in 1954, but like his superior Lavochkin, his refusal to join the party again led to political difficulties.

He later switched to ZAGI . From 1952 to 1973 he worked on the personal recommendation of Khrushchev in the field of general aerospace and developed systems as diverse as aerial refueling or a rescue system for space shuttles .
