Kimberly Alexis Bledel (born September 16, 1981 in Houston , Texas ) is an American actress and model . She was best known for the role of Rory Gilmore in the television series Gilmore Girls .

Life

Bledel spent her childhood in Houston, Texas. Her father Martín is from Argentina and her mother Nanette from Mexico . That's why she initially grew up with Spanish as her mother tongue. She only learned English at school. The family still speaks to each other in Spanish today.

Bledel was very shy in her childhood, which is why her parents sent her to a theater group when she was eight, in the hope of boosting her self-confidence. She soon had her first appearances in The Wizard of Oz and Aladdin .

At the age of 14, Bledel began modeling for a few years after being spotted at a local mall. From 1996 to 1999 she attended the private high school St. Agnes Academy in Houston and began studying acting at New York University in 2000 . Soon after, she took part in the casting for the series Gilmore Girls and got the role despite lacking television experience, as the crew was enthusiastic about her naturalness and nature. So she dropped out of college after a year and moved from New York City to Los Angeles .

After her breakthrough as Rory Gilmore, she played parallel to Gilmore Girls in several films. In October 2002 she made her cinema debut with Until All Eternity . She also starred in the 2003 music video for She's Gonna Break Soon from Gainesville- based ska-punk band Less Than Jake . In 2004 she was shown in a supporting role in the Bollywood film Love Indian . In 2005 she starred in Sin City and took on one of the leading roles in the film One for 4 , in 2008 she was seen in the sequel One for 4 - On the way in matters of love . For the short film Life is Short , in which she played in 2006, Bledel also appeared as a producer.

In May 2009 Bledel began modeling again and signed a modeling contract with the IMG agency.

Bledel was in a relationship with her fellow actor Milo Ventimiglia from about December 2002 to May 2006 . In 2013 she got engaged to Vincent Kartheiser . The marriage finally took place in June 2014 in California. In the fall of 2015, she gave birth to her first child, a son.

In 2016, four 90-minute new episodes were commissioned by Netflix , titled Gilmore Girls: A New Year in Germany , produced by Gilmore Girls and Bledel can be seen again alongside a large part of the old cast. In 2017 she was in the series The Handmaid's Tale - The Maid's Report , for which she was awarded the Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series .
