Alexejew I-212 ( Russian Алексеев И-212 ) is the name of a twin-engine Soviet interceptor aircraft from OKB No. 21 by Semyon Alexejew , which was built in just one copy.
development
On the basis of a government contract issued in June 1946 for a heavily armed fighter with radio equipment, Alexejew developed a middle-decker with a straight trapezoidal wing , on the middle wing of which the two engines were attached. In contrast to its predecessor I-211 , it had different engines (two RD-45s) and two cannons in a remote-controlled mount in the stern that could be swiveled down by 70 °, as well as a Tori-1 radar device in the bow of the fuselage.
The offensive armament comprised a 37 mm cannon with 75 rounds and two 23 mm cannons with 200 rounds each in the bow above the radar device.
The scooter testing of the prototype with A. A. Popow as a pilot began in the summer of 1948 and was discontinued soon afterwards, as it was foreseeable that with the Jak-25 a much more advanced model would be available. The light bomber I-213 and the reconnaissance version I-214 without a rear mount were planned, but they were not implemented.
As a result, OKB Alexejew was dissolved in 1948 and the designer took over the management of a German team of specialists, including Brunolf Baade , who later became known for the design of the only East German passenger aircraft, the 152 . The knowledge gained with the I-212 flowed into the construction of the I-320 , La-200 and Jak-25.
