The Seneschsee ( Russian Сенежское озеро , transcribed Seneschskoje osero ) is a reservoir in Russia . It is located on the M10 trunk road ( Moscow - Saint Petersburg ) and the Saint Petersburg – Moscow railway near Solnechnogorsk .
Its area is 8.51 km².
The dam was built in the 19th century when the Catherine Canal (Екатерининский канал) was built to connect the Istra and Sestra rivers .
