Seniorweb Switzerland is a Swiss social network . It is run as a non-profit organization for the 50+ generation of senior citizens in voluntary work . The Pro Seniorweb foundation serves as the sponsor , the platform is operated by Seniorweb AG.

Creation and operation

Seniorweb has been present on the Internet with its website seniorweb.ch since 1998. Seniorweb was founded with the aim of creating an exchange platform by and for senior citizens and thus bringing the "network of networks" closer to the older generation and strengthening their Internet competence. The result is a diverse website with editorial articles, various offers and numerous exchange forums.

From 1995 onwards, opportunities were sought at European level to familiarize the older generation with the diverse possibilities of the new medium Internet. Due to his contacts as a member of the General Council of EURAG, the association of the older generation of Europe founded in 1960, the Zurich entrepreneur Arthur von Arx was involved in the first efforts to establish international networking. This resulted in the Swiss platform seniorweb.ch on a national level.

Thanks to several years of start-up funding from Migros Culture Percentage and Pro Senectute , the website was able to operate . In 2003 the operation was taken over by volunteers and the private sponsorship was transferred to an association . After a reorganization, the association was transformed into the Pro Seniorweb Foundation in 2008. The foundation is the only shareholder of Seniorweb AG, which is operationally managed by a volunteer board of directors and a management team. The Foundation has been chaired by Karl Vögeli since 2016 . The board of directors includes Anton Schaller (President), Corina Preiswerk (Delegate of the Board of Directors), Gerhard Pfister and Jürg Bachmann . The management consists of Corina Preiswerk (CEO), Linus Baur (editor-in-chief) and Barbara Kobel Pfister (chief financial officer).

Seniorweb.ch is designed almost exclusively by volunteer seniors who work in the areas of editing, learning center, support, finance and administration. The website is financed in advance by membership fees and advertising income. Seniorweb has had a permanent office with a training room in Zurich since 2014.

offer

Seniorweb is constantly in the process of realigning and expanding its activities, professionalizing its services and adapting them to new requirements. In 2014 the senior web homepage was redesigned with the three main areas of learning , knowledge and sharing . It was clear that Seniorweb primarily wants to strengthen the digital competence of seniors .

Seniorweb has its own learning center near the center of Zurich, in which consultation hours and courses on current digital topics are taught. Experienced coaches offer services that have been specially developed for the older generation. The offers are continuously adapted to the trends and needs of customers. Seniorweb also maintains a support that helps with problems with the PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Seniorweb also has its own editorial team, which publishes articles and columns on various topics that are worth reading on a daily basis , as well as a health guide in which medical advice is given free of charge in response to user questions.

Seniorweb members can open their own blogs and exchange ideas with other users. In addition, Seniorweb has several decentralized regional groups and other groups that organize and offer their own events and offers such as workshops, excursions, visits and lectures.

Newsletter and brand family

Since 2014 Seniorweb has been sending a weekly newsletter to over 7,500 subscribers with information on the latest articles and offers on the website . In addition, Seniorweb has been co-editor of the four times a year “SeniorIn” print magazine, which provides around 12,000 subscribers with related topics such as the website, together with the Zurich Pensioners 'and Seniors' Association ZRV.

Since spring 2017, the various offers (website, learning center, newsletter, print magazine) have been combined in the brand family “seniorweb - seniornews - seniorin - seniorlearn” with a uniform appearance, which serves the older generation with different information and usage needs.

criticism

In 2014 there was a relaunch of the Seniorweb website, which was heavily criticized by some users. Then some regional groups separated from Seniorweb and created their own websites.
