Sennuccio del Bene

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sennuccio del Bene (* around 1275 in Florence , † 1349 in Avignon ) was an Italian poet who belonged to the Dolce stil nuovo ; politically he was close to the white Guelfs .

Life

In 1302 he was banished from Florence by Charles of Valois ; In 1312 he took part in the siege of his hometown on the side of Henry VII . The company failed and resulted in life in exile for Sennuccio's conviction. In 1313 he went to Avignon and entered the service of Cardinal Giovanni Colonna : here he met Francesco Petrarca , with whom he befriended. In 1326 he was in the interests of Pope John XXII. pardoned on the intercession of the papal legate in Tuscany and was able to return to Florence, where he was rector of the Ospedale di San Bartolomeo del Mugnone. He spent his last life again in Avignon, where he died in 1349.

plant

Fourteen of his poems have survived, mostly sonnets in the dolce style nuovo (such as Era ne l'ora che la dolce stella ). The political canzone for the death of Henry VII ( Da poi ch'i ho perduta ogni speranza ) is more a creed than a lament.

More well-known, however, is the report on Petrarch's coronation of the poet in 1341, the Epistola di Sennuccio Del Bene della incoronatione di m. Francesco Petrarca, fatta in Roma l'anno della salutifera incarnatione 1341. Al magnifico sig. Can della Scala signore di Verona.
