history
In September 1880 the Senshū School ( 専 修 学校 , Senshū gakkō ; the name Senshū means "specialization [in a subject]"), founded. The founders were four men named Nagatane Sōma ( 相 馬 永 胤 , 1850-1924), Inajirō Tajiri ( 田 尻 稲 次郎 , 1850-1923), Tanetarō Megata ( 目 賀 田 種 太郎 , 1853-1926) and Shigetada Komai ( 駒 井 重 格 , 1853) 1901) who studied in the United States . The school was the first Japanese private business and law school to teach in Japanese . At that time, professors ( O-yatoi gaikokujin ) taught European languages at the University of Tokyo .
In 1885, today's Kanda campus was opened and the school moved from Ginza to Kanda. In 1893 the law department was closed. The school was named in 1913 in Shiritsu Senshū Daigaku ( 私立 専 修 大学 , German "Private Senshū University"), in 1919 in Senshū Daigaku . In 1922 she received university status.
At first the university had only one faculty (economics). She added the following faculties: Law (1927), Business Studies (1962), Business Studies (1965), Humanities (1966), Network and Information Science (2001), and Human Sciences (2010). The larger Ikuta campus opened in 1949, and today all faculties, except law and evening classes, are located on the Ikuta campus. In 1989, the body of the University established a sister university in Ishinomaki in Miyagi prefecture - the Senshu University Ishinomaki ( 石巻専修大学 , Ishinomaki Senshu daigaku ).
