from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef "Sepp" Reif (born September 5, 1937 in Munich ) is a former German ice hockey player .

Sepp Reif began his ice hockey career at EC Bad Tölz , with which he became German champion in 1962 . In 1964 he joined Otto Schneitberger for the DEG team in Düsseldorf , as the two players hoped for better professional prospects there. This change caused a sensation, as ice hockey stars from Bavaria moved to the north for the first time and this was perceived by their home club as "treason". The two players initially received no approval from EC Bad Tölz and were banned for 18 months.

Reif played for DEG for ten years and was one of the top performers together with Schneitberger. In total, he played 432 first division games and scored 245 goals. The team's successes sparked a real ice hockey euphoria in Düsseldorf. In 1967 , 1972 and 1975 DEG became German champions with Reif in its ranks.

Sepp Reif also played three times at the Olympic Games for the German national team, in 1960 the team took sixth place, in 1964 and 1968 seventh place. Overall, he played 82 times for the national team and scored 22 goals.

Sepp Reif was honored with the inclusion in the "Ice Hockey Museum", the Hall of Fame of German ice hockey.
