Seppo cantons

Seppo Kantonen (born November 13, 1963 ) is a Finnish jazz pianist.

Cantons studied music from the age of thirteen. In 1983 he performed with the UMO Jazz Orchestra . Soon he was working with musicians such as the trumpeter Henrik Otto Donner and the saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen . He also made a name for himself as a rock musician. In 1985 he was awarded the Georgie Award .

In 1989 he became a member of the heavy jazz group of bassist Pekka Pohjola . He performed all over Europe and the Far East as well as in the former Soviet Union and the USA and soon became one of Finland's most sought-after sidemen. In 1989 he recorded the duo album Phases with keyboardist Jarmo Savolainen .

At the end of the 1990s, Kantonen led the Trio Klang , which toured Finland in 1998 with trumpeter Tomasz Stańko . He continued to play with the UMO Jazz Orchestra . In 2007 he performed with the quartet of saxophonist Mikko Innanen at the Moers Festival .
