Sequester (medicine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term sequester refers to a piece of dead tissue that has been demarcated from healthy tissue , for example a piece of bone that has died from bone marrow inflammation . Sequesters hinder wound healing , which is why they are rejected by the body. If this does not happen, they must be surgically removed. This surgical procedure is called "sequestrotomy".

An inflammatory - necrotic tissue reaction around a bone sequester is called an "involucrum".
