Serafim Triantafyllou ( Greek Σεραφείμ Τριανταφύλλου Serafím Triandafýllou , * 1912 in Megala Kalyvia , today incorporated into Trikala ; † March 26, 1944 in Athens ) was a Greek lawyer, communist and resistance fighter against the German occupation.

Resistance and Arrest

The son of a peasant family was first political commissar of a battalion operating in Thessaly in the first division of the communist liberation army ELAS , which began the armed struggle against the German occupation in mid-1943; then in Athens editor of pamphlets and member of the National Liberation Front EAM . He organized the contacts between Athens and the departments in the mountains. He was arrested by treason on March 11, 1944, along with other partisans during a meeting of the SS in Athens. He was taken to the SS headquarters on Merlinstrasse and tortured. On March 26, 1944, he escaped while being transported to the Kesariani execution site . He was followed and shot in the streets of Athens. While on the run, he managed to pass on his short farewell letter, in it the sentence: I am heartbroken that I don't have a bomb to blow up the Germans. On October 12, 1944, the Wehrmacht withdrew and ELAS took control.
