Sergei Michailowitsch Ignatjew ( Russian Серге́й Миха́йлович Игна́тьев ; born   January 10, 1948 in Leningrad , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Russian financial and economic politician. From March 20, 2002 to June 24, 2013 he was President (Chairman) of Bank Rossii , the central bank of Russia.

Sergei Ignatiev graduated in 1966 from high school and performed from 1967 to 1969 his military service in the Soviet Army from.

Ignatjew then studied at the economics faculty of Lomonossow University in Moscow . He graduated in 1975, and then graduated from the faculty's postgraduate , which he successfully completed the 1978th

In 1978 Ignatjew went back to his hometown Leningrad and worked at the Leningrad Friedrich Engels Institute for Soviet Trade as a research assistant and lecturer. He pursued this activity until the collapse of the Soviet Union.

At the end of 1991, Sergei Ignatjew was recalled to Moscow, where he was supposed to take up the post of Deputy Minister of Economics and Finance of the newly established Russian Federation . Ignatiev was part of Yegor Gaidar's "team" .

From 1992 to 1993 he was deputy chairman of the Russian central bank.

In 1993 Ignatjew moved back to the Russian government, where he was Deputy Minister of Economics.

In 1996 he was appointed his advisor on economic issues by the then Russian President Boris Yeltsin .

From 1997 to 2002 Ignatiev was first deputy finance minister.

On March 20, 2002, he was finally appointed chairman of the Russian central bank. In 2005 and 2009 he was confirmed to this post. His last term of office ran until June 2013. His successor was Elwira Nabiullina .

Sergei Ignatjew wrote over 20 economic articles.
