Sergei Olegowitsch Kuznetsov ( Russian Серге́й Оле́гович Кузнецо́в ; born July 25, 1977 in Moscow ) is a Russian architect and since August 21, 2012 the chief architect of Moscow.

biography

In 1995, Kuznetsov began studying architecture at the Moscow Architecture Institute - Faculty of Housing and Public Buildings, from which he graduated in 2001 with a diploma in architecture.

In 2000 he founded the architecture studio “SLK-Projekt” as a partner and general director. In 2003 the architecture studio “SPProjekt” followed. In 2006 , Kuznetsov and the Berlin architect Sergei Tchoban founded the office “SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov” in Moscow , where he was the managing partner until 2012. In 2008 the partners founded the architecture magazine “speech”.

In 2010 and 2012, Kuznetsov curated the exhibitions in the Russian pavilion at the 12th and 13th Venice Architecture Biennale . The 2012 exhibition - “i-city / i-land” on the Skolkowo Innovation Center project won a special mention from the jury. In 2012 Kuznetsov was appointed chief architect of Moscow and in 2013 he was appointed chairman of the Moscow Architecture Council. In 2014 he became chairman of the Urban Planning Committee of the Skolkowo Foundation and received an honorary professorship at the Moscow Architecture Institute (MArchI).

Work as chief architect of Moscow

On August 20, 2012, Sergei Kuznetsov was appointed chief architect of Moscow by the Moscow mayor. Kuznetsov is also the chairman of the Moscow Architecture Council. This is a collegial and advisory body of the Moscow City Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning, whose meetings are once again taking place regularly at the initiative of the chief architect. The work of the council focuses on the implementation of a uniform urban development policy and the promotion of an open discussion about important projects in the city.

In the first year of Kuznetsov's office, over 20 architecture and urban planning competitions were held, including several large international competitions, such as the Zaryadye Park and the National Center for Contemporary Art (NCCA). The competitive process initiated by Sergei Kuznetsov has become a regular practice and an effective method of urban planning.

Under the leadership of the chief architect, new forms of standardized housing and social facilities are being developed. Obsolete building standards are revised and supplemented, and new quality standards are introduced. Streets, pedestrian zones and public spaces are being rebuilt and rebuilt.
