The VW Caddy (2K) , also known as the VW Caddy III or Caddy IV, is a car model from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand of the Volkswagen Group . It has been produced as a high-roof combination since 2003. The predecessor is the VW Caddy (9KV) . The successor VW Caddy V was presented in February 2020 .
history
The Caddy, introduced in autumn 2003, is a high-roof station wagon . The platform PQ35 / A5, which he z. B. shares with the Golf V and the Touran I. Unlike the Touran based on the Golf V, the Caddy has a leaf-sprung, rigid rear axle instead of the four-link independent wheel suspension introduced in the Golf V.
In addition to the utility vehicle version as a panel van , it is also offered as a car as a Caddy Life . Both are also available as a long version with Maxi added to the name . The Caddy is no longer offered as a pick-up. VW has been offering the Amarok for this type of vehicle since the end of 2010 .
In the summer of 2010 , the Caddy received the then current VW face with a facelift.
In the summer of 2015 , the Caddy received another facelift ( type: SA), although this was more extensive than the previous one, which is why VW also describes the facelift as a new generation ( Caddy IV ). Among other things, the engines were converted to Euro 6. After the facelift, the Caddy was tested for vehicle safety by Euro NCAP . In the crash test, it received four out of five possible stars.

Changes model year 2007 (from May 2006):
- Caddy Life discontinued with 2.0-liter SDI diesel engine
- 1.9 l TDI diesel engine (1896 cm³) with 55 kW and 210 Nm max. Torque; 158 g CO 2 / km (without DPF)
- 1.4 l petrol engine (1390 cm³) now with 59 kW and 126 Nm max. Torque; 191 g CO 2 / km
With the 2006 model year, the TDI engines will receive Euro 4 approval - even without a diesel particulate filter , which has been available since December 2005 (closed cleaning system). A particle filter can be retrofitted. However, this is then a less effective cleaning (open system) because there is no intervention in the engine management. Vehicles with filters are currently (as of 1/2006) not suitable for biodiesel.
The Caddy EcoFuel, available since mid-2006, has an engine optimized for natural gas. The natural gas tanks hold around 26 kilograms of natural gas and allow a range of over 400 kilometers. The EcoFuel also has a 13-liter reserve tank for premium petrol. The CO 2 emissions of the Caddy EcoFuel are specified as 157 g / km - making it the most climate-friendly drive for the VW Caddy 2K at the moment.
The Caddy Maxi Life has been available since November 2007. It is a 47 cm longer version of the Caddy Life and offers space for seven people and their luggage.
Caddy Life
Under the name Caddy Life , a car with up to seven seats based on the current Caddy model was first introduced in 2004.
While VW calls the Caddy Life - just like the compact Touran and the Vans Multivan / Caravelle - a MPV , with the introduction of the Citroën Berlingo in 1996, the name high-roof station wagon for this vehicle class became established in the specialist press . The Caddy Life is an inexpensive alternative to the Touran. Over half the parts of the Touran were also used in the Caddy Life.
The Caddy Life also received a facelift in summer 2010. As a result, the brand name “Life” disappeared. The Caddy is now only offered with the equipment designations that are otherwise common at VW, Startline, Trendline, Comfortline and Comfortline Edition. With the 2012 model year, the Comfortline Edition equipment was replaced by Highline.
Special models
People's caddy
Volkswagen carried out a special campaign together with Bild in mid-2005 . The so-called “People's Caddy” was offered at a price advantage of around 3200 euros. It was based on a Caddy-Life (model year 2006) in the standard version with extensive standard equipment.
The vehicles were only available in three (usually genuine Yamaha) metallic colors: Reflex Silver Metallic , Ravenna blue and Offroad Gray Metallic . The choice of drive units was also restricted:
- 1.9-liter TDI engine with 77 kW (105 PS).
- 1.4 l petrol engine with 55 kW (75 PS).
- 1.6 l Otto engine with 75 kW (102 PS).
An option package could be ordered for around 950 euros. This contained an air conditioning system , a third row of seats that makes the vehicle a seven-seater, four luggage nets for small items in the roof pillar and the RCD 300 radio system with six instead of four speakers. In the course of the 14-day campaign, additional options became possible at an additional cost: ESP and seat heating could be ordered as well. However, those who ordered in the first days of the campaign were left behind in this sense.
The initially planned delivery times of eight to twelve weeks for the Volkscaddy were extended to up to six months due to the unexpectedly high demand.
Caddy Roncalli
Approx. two-month special promotion in spring 2011 and repeated with different equipment in spring 2012. Dedicated to the Roncalli circus family .
Caddy JAKO-O
Special campaign 2013 with children's outfitter JAKO-O specifically for families. Among other things, there was a discount of 200 euros per child (max. 600 euros) and three special accessory packages (wellness, practical, explorer). Apparently there was already a small advertising campaign with JAKO-O in 2007, but for the Multivan.
Caddy Soccer
The Caddy Soccer has been available to order since January 2014 at prices starting at EUR 13,990. It is a specially made model for the football World Cup 2014, which was available as a panel van in addition to the car version. The special model is based on the equipment lines Startline and Trendline and has an output of between 63 kW and 103 kW. As a special incentive, buyers of the vehicle received 50 euros for every German World Cup goal scored. Alternatively, there was an instant bonus of 350 euros.
Caddy team
The models Caddy Team and Caddy Team Edition are special models from the end of 2014 with price advantages and a child bonus of 200 euros per child.
Other special models
The special model "Tramper" (new name "Beach") is specially designed for camping . The second row of seats can be folded down. A bed is mounted approximately at the level of the underside of the side window, which offers a reclining surface of almost two meters when the second row of seats is folded down. There is also a tent that can be attached to the tailgate. Since 2007 the “Tramper” has also been available as a Caddy Maxi.
The “Color Concept” special model is largely a normal Caddy Life. However, the bumpers on this model are painted in the same color as the Touran sister model . The exterior mirrors are also painted. The steering wheel, handbrake lever and gear knob are covered with leather. The interior of the vehicle has colored rings around the ventilation openings and the upholstery is color-coordinated.
Since the end of 2007 there has also been a long version called the Caddy Maxi.
In mid-February 2009, VW responded with the Caddy “winner” to the so-called environmental bonus of 2500 euros, with which the federal government, as part of an economic stimulus program, scrapped a car that was at least nine years old in connection with the registration of a new or annual car Emission class Euro 4 or higher rewarded. The “winner”, like other special models marketed in cooperation with “bild.de”, was offered with a limited selection of extras and colors and the extra package “Light and Sight II” as standard. Part of the equipment is the so-called thermal insulation glazing. It ensures that the interior does not heat up too quickly in summer and that the heat inside is not released so quickly in winter. Since this relieves the air conditioning system, fuel is saved. The basic price is around 3000 euros below that for normal models.
Another special model was the "Edition 30" for the 30th birthday of the Caddy. In contrast to other special models, this was more expensive and equipped accordingly.
All caddies of the current generation are built in VW's Polish plant in Poznan .
