Sergei Stanislawowitsch Udalzow

Sergei Stanislawowitsch Udalzow ( Russian Серге́й Станисла́вович Удальцо́в , scientific transliteration Sergej Stanislavovič Udal'cov ; born  February 16,  1977 in Moscow ) is a Russian politician. He is the leader of the Avant-garde movement of the Red Youth AKM , a member of the Executive Committee of the Left Front and other, associated left-wing and civil rights movements . Udaltsov is known for having been arrested many times for his protests. In prison he often uses the hunger strike as a means of protest .

Life

In 1998 Udaltsov founded the movement Avantgarde der Rote Jugend AKM 'as a youth movement of Trudowaja Rossija, the workers' party of Viktor Anpilov . 2002–2003 Udaltsov was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Working Russia, which was dissolved in July 2003.

In 1999 Udaltsov graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Water Transportation and worked as a lawyer in the Glasnost newspaper . In the same year he ran for the Duma elections on a list that did not overcome the 5% hurdle.

In 2005 he ran for the Moscow City Parliament on the list of the KPRF .

From 2006 to 2007, the movement of AKM Sergei Udaltsov cooperated with the alliance Other Russia of Garry Kasparov and also took part in the " march of the discontented " by Other Russia.

In 2008 Udalzow was elected to the executive committee (consisting of 30 people) of this movement on the occasion of the founding conference of the Left Front; until then he was the organizational coordinator of the Left Front.

In 2009 Udaltsov became co-chairman of the United Russian Labor Front party, abbreviated to "ROT Front" (РОТ Фронт). The same name is also used for the Moscow confectionery factory of the same name. Since 2010 he has been organizing regular protest rallies, the so-called "Day of Wrath" (День Гнева).

Udaltsov was one of the leading figures in the organization and implementation of the protests after the 2011 Russian parliamentary elections , which he believed followed the massive falsifications of this election. He spent 15 days in prison after the protests on December 5, 2011.

In the 2012 presidential elections , Udaltsov supported the KPRF candidate, Gennady Zyuganov .

When Udalzow took part in the protests against the verdict against the musicians of Pussy Riot on August 17, 2012 , he was arrested in Moscow together with the ex-world chess champion Garry Kasparov and around 60 other demonstrators.

In October 2012 it became known that the Russian judiciary had started an investigation against Udaltsov on suspicion of inciting mass unrest. He was interrogated and his home and that of his parents were ransacked. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to ten years. At the end of the same month he was arrested together with Alexei Navalny and Ilya Yashin "for causing public nuisance" during a solidarity campaign for persecuted Russian opposition members in Moscow . They were released a few hours later.

Udalzow was sentenced to four and a half years in a camp on July 24, 2014. Immediately after the sentencing was announced, he went on a hunger strike for 24 days. Since Udalzow had been under house arrest since February 9, 2013, he was released in August 2017.

Udalzow is married to the former press spokeswoman for the Left Front, Anastasija Udalzowa . The couple live in Moscow and have two children.
