from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sergei Stepanovich Startschenko ( Russian Сергей Степанович Старченко , English transcription Sergei Stepanovich Starchenko ) is a mathematical logician from the former Soviet Union who works in the USA.

Startschenko obtained his diploma at the Novosibirsk State University in 1983 and received his doctorate there in 1987 with Yevgeny Andreevich Palyutin ( number of models in horn theories ). He was at Vanderbilt University and is a professor at the University of Notre Dame .

In 2013 he received the Karp Prize with Ya'acov Peterzil and others. Partly with Peterzil, he applied the theory of o-minimal structures to algebraic, real and complex analytical problems.

In 2010 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Hyderabad (lecture with Peterzil: Tame complex analysis and O-minimality). He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
