Anton Pieper

Anton Pieper (born March 20, 1854 in Lüdinghausen ; † December 24, 1908 in Münster ) was a German church historian and rector of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Life

Anton Pieper was born in Lüdinghausen, Westphalia , in 1854 . In 1874 he passed his Abitur at the Paulinum grammar school in Münster and studied theology in Münster and Innsbruck from 1874 to 1878 . He was ordained a priest in Innsbruck on July 28, 1878 . On 8 July 1883 he was at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg in Freiburg for Dr. theol. PhD .

Pieper worked at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1896 until his death in 1908; initially as an associate professor, from 1899 as a full professor of church history. 1906/07 he was rector, 1907/08 prorector of the university. In 1896 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia , whose secretary he became that same year. Between 1899 and 1905 he served as deputy chairman of the commission. During his tenure in 1902 he summarized the history of the university in his work “ The old University of Münster, 1773–1818: A historical overview. "And was responsible for the publication of a second association magazine" Westphalia "(long:" Messages from the Association for History and Archeology of Westphalia and the State Museum of the Province of Westphalia "), the first edition of which appeared shortly after his sudden death.
