Sergei Karjakin attended the regional sports university in Murmansk , starts for Dinamo Murmansk and is trained by Vladimir Krassawzew. With the relay he won the Russian championship in the summer biathlon 2004. In 2005 he ran for the runner-up with the team and with the 4 × 7.5 km relay on the bronze rank of the Russian biathlon championships. He started in Oberhof at the 2009 Summer Biathlon World Championships in the races of the cross-country discipline . With two penalties he ran into sixth place in the sprint, with a further six penalties he was able to maintain his position in the pursuit race. At the Russian championships in summer biathlon in July 2009 in Ufa , he finished fifth in the sprint (cross-country run) and sixth in the pursuit.
