Sergiu Singer
Sergiu Singer (* August 1928 , Ploieşti , Romania ) is a German architect, set designer, writer and gastrosoph .
Life
In 1952 he graduated from the architecture institute "Ion Mincu" at the University of Bucharest with a degree in engineering . During and after his studies he worked as a graphic artist, assistant to the most important stage designers in Romania and as an architect at the Institute for Planning of the City of Bucharest. In 1956 he became a member of Uniunea Arhitecților (architects 'association) and Fondului Plastic (artists' association). In 1957 he became head of equipment at the Ploiesti State Theater and received the Romanian Youth Prize for his first stage design. In 1962, through a competition, Singer also became head of equipment at the Theater der Jugend in Bucharest. He became a full member of Uniunea Artiştilor Plastici (Association of Fine Artists) and moved to Germany at the end of 1963.
After his debut at the International May Festival in Wiesbaden in 1965, he worked as a set and costume designer for the major stages in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Göttingen, Hanover, Oberhausen, Cologne and others. From 1969 to 1984 he successfully intensified his activities in film and television. He accompanied and supervised the DISCO series as film architect for 12 years in a row. In 1970 he designed the set for the first film adaptation of Picasso's play "How to grab wishes by the tail". In addition to his actual professional activity, he opened “Das kleine Lokal” in Bremen in 1974.
From 1986 onwards he definitely turned to architecture and used the experience he had gained in decoration and scenography for the benefit of his designs and buildings.
In 2002 he published the book “Lavandă și usturoi sau murmurul caselor” (Curtea Veche, București) “dedicated to the eternal Bucharest” in Romanian language, and in 2006 his novel “Pioneze și hârtie albastră” (Humanitas, București) Time mirror of Romania's golden 1930s up to the consolidation of the communist dictatorship. As a visiting professor, he gave lectures between 2007 and 2009 on the impact of scenography in architecture at the Bucharest University "Ion Mincu".
