Sero Colorado ( Papiamento ; Dutch : Seroe Colorado , also in international use: Ceru Colorado , colored hill ) is a hilly landscape in the south of the Caribbean island of Aruba .

The region administratively belongs to San Nicolas . The region became known worldwide when the oil refinery and tank farms were built on Aruba in 1920.

history

In the Sero Colorado area, phosphate was mined earlier - at the time of Aruba gold mining. The dilapidated tunnels and tunnels in Sero Colorado, with remains of the Kipplorenbahn from 1879, are still there.

During the Second World War, the industrial area in Sero Colorado was attacked by German and Italian submarines. In this area, on the highest hill of Sero Colorado, the remains of the guns that played an important role in the defense of the pier facilities and the oil refinery of Aruba during World War II can still be found. The gun turrets from the 1940s have now been dismantled, but the concrete foundations and trenches are still clearly visible.

The two housing estates Essoville and Zeewijk are also located in the Sero Colorado area. According to the geographical classification system, Sero Colorado belongs to the southern region of San Nicolas and in 2010 had a population of 4850 people and an area of ​​9.64 km².

The Sero Colorado landscape is also home to Aruba's only motor racing circuit, Aruba International Raceway, and to the southeast, Baby Beach with the Seroe Colorado lighthouse , which marks the port entrance.

In spring 2014, a government delegation (Gabinete Mike Eman) headed by Minister di Turismo Otmar Oduber visited the Sero Colorado region to start a renovation program for the various Pier na Sero Colorado and beach facilities.
