The Serra de Monchique is a mountain range in the west of the Algarve . The highest point is called Fóia and is 902 meters high. The Monchique Mountains are an important shelter from the cold wind that blows from the Atlantic Ocean to the mainland.
The Serra is named after the capital Monchique .
