Serving suggestion on food packaging

A serving suggestion is a pictorial or linguistic suggestion for the arrangement or preparation of a food or dish .

The textual note "Serving suggestion" is particularly important for images on food packaging in stores. These images generally represent ready-to-serve presentations and are therefore often made with the aid of additional food (such as parsley bunches for garnishing) or certain utensils that are common in connection with consumption (cutlery, bowl).

The fact that the additional food or utensils visible in the illustration are not contained in the sales packaging, but can be added by the end consumer during the serving process, is indicated by the word “serving suggestion”. This labeling is necessary to avoid unlawful misleading of the consumer. In Germany, according to § 11 (1) of the Food, Commodities and Feed Code (LFGB), there is a misleading situation when food is advertised or placed on the market using presentations or presentations that are suitable for deception.
