Seth Low Pierrepont State Park Reserve (also: Pierrepont State Park ) is a state park in the area of Ridgefield .

history

The area is historically interesting because General David Wooster led his troops on the Old Barlow Mountain Road during the American Revolutionary War . John Barlow's forge gave the path its name. In addition, foundations of the Scott House from the 1720s are still visible on the boat ramp. The stone walls and fences were put in place by the Scott family when they ran their farm in the country. Seth Low Pierrepont , a millionaire and former diplomat, acquired the land from the Scott family in the 1930s and left it to the Connecticut State Park and Forest Commission upon his death in 1956 .

Hiking trails, leisure opportunities

Impressions along the hiking trail

The park has five different hiking trails. One of them is a loop trail around the south end of Lake Naraneka (Pierrepont Pond). From the top of Barlow Mountain there is a view of Pierrepont Lake , the hills of Redding and, weather permitting, Long Island Sound .

Boating is only allowed with non-motorized boats on Lake Naraneka . Fishing is permitted under the guidelines of the State of Connecticut Board of Fisheries and Game .
