Robin Blaze

Robin Blaze (* 1971 in Manchester ) is an English opera singer ( countertenor ).

Life

Blaze is the son of professional golfer Peter Blaze and grew up in Shadwell , near Leeds . He studied at Leeds Grammar School , Uppingham School and Magdalen College , Oxford .

After his first solo recording as a boy soprano with Stephen Lomas, he became a choir member at Magdalen College, where he also made recordings with the Dufay Consort . After graduating from college, he won a postgraduate scholarship to the Royal College of Music , where he continued his education with Michael Chance and Ashley Stafford. In addition to singing, he also studied flute , piano and organ . He then became a professor of vocal studies at the Royal College of Music.

Discography

Blaze now has over 50 solo recordings, including the complete Bach cantatas for Masaaki Suzuki and BIS Records , as well as a series of song recitals with Elizabeth Kenny for Hyperion . His CD with Handel duets with Carolyn Sampson was nominated for the Gramophone Award . His recording of Thomas Adès ' “The Lover in Winter” won the Gramophone Prize for Contemporary Music.
