Seven Oaks is a dam on the Santa Ana River in San Bernardino County in the US state of California . The dam is located eight miles northeast of Redlands in the Santa Ana Canyon in the San Bernardino Mountains . It was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and cost $ 250 million. When completed in November 1999, it was the 10th tallest earth and stone debris dam in the United States.

Construction began in August 1994. The dam is 168 meters high above the river bed, 198 meters above its foundation and 670 meters wide at its base. It has a building volume of 33 million cubic meters, although another source gives 28.77 million cubic meters. The dam stands on the San Andreas Fault and is therefore built in such a way that it can withstand an earthquake of magnitude eight (on the Richter scale ).

The reservoir has a capacity of 179.6 million cubic meters. It is supposed to protect the eastern part of the Los Angeles area from flooding. The storage space is unusually large for a basin that is used solely for flood protection. After a flood, the water is gradually drained, but so slowly that some of it can seep away and fill the groundwater. In the dry season the pool is sometimes empty. 64 kilometers below is another dam, the Prado Dam .
