Severin Filek

Severin Filek (born May 6, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian design journalist, university lecturer and head of designaustria, a knowledge center and representative of the interests of Austrian designers.

Life

Severin Filek studied Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , USA, the University of the Witwatersrand , South Africa and at the University of Vienna . He has published numerous works and studies on the subject of design, particularly on design awareness in Europe as well as design protection and professional rights in national and international media.

Filek was President of the Bureau of European Design Associations (BEDA, European umbrella organization of national designer associations) from 1999 to 2001. Since 1992 he has been the managing director of designaustria (knowledge center and interest group). Since 2012 he has been a board member of BEDA and Design Management Europe DME.

Severin Filek teaches at the University for Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz (also known as the Art University Linz for short ) , the FH Joanneum in Graz and the Higher Graphic Federal Teaching and Research Institute in Vienna. In 2014 he was awarded the professional title of Professor by the Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer.
